Workshops Objectives
- Participants will be taught the basic concepts of the GPS unit and will learn to utilize these applications specifically for search and rescue. This information will enhance documentations and assist with navigation and data reporting, during trainings and real missions.
- Classroom studies will be expanded to include fieldwork while GPS crews will be given trails to navigate, waypoints to find, and clues to collect as downloadable data.
- Mapping skills (in the MOC) will train the receiver to download data from crews and learn basic concepts of mapping and GIS applications. Common problems from downloadable data and the added benefits of real time data entry will be discussed.
Putting together GPS and mapping capabilities will help keep everyone on the same page, improved accuracy, help best strategy mission planning, and save valuable time.
This is a must have class for any search crew personnel and search manager.

Instructor Bio
David Clarke - David is the Chief for New Jersey Search & Rescue and has been one of their GPS/Digital Mapping Instructors for more than 10 years. He has been a speaker at both NASAR and MRA Conferences for more than 4 years and is a Cartographic Engineering Technician with the US Army Corps of Engineers-New York and also serves as a GIS Specialist for their Emergency Operations Division. He holds ICS-300, SARTech/DEC Crew Boss, and FEMA-PDS certifications.
Adam Levin - Adam is a Captain with New Jersey Search & Rescue and has been one of their GPS/Digital Mapping Instructors for more than 5 years and has more than 8 years in SAR. He has presented both Basic and Advanced courses and is ICS-200, DEC Wild land Search and and SARTech certifications. In addition, he is the chairman for NJSAR's Technology Committee.
Robert Langendoen - Bob is a Captain with New Jersey Search & Rescue and has been one of their GPS/Digital Mapping Instructors for more than 5 years and has more than 20 years in SAR. He is the Sr. K-9 Handler for NJSAR and holds ICS-300 and SARTech certifications. Bob also has presented Field Map & Compass courses at several SAR Conferences.

- Laptop, GPS, (Map Tech Terrain Navigator Pro/ Maptech Search & Rescue – for individuals wishing to apply the mapping aspects of this class to their laptop) And an inquisitive mind
